Late Roman to Early Byzantine, ca. 4th to 8th century CE. A stunning pair of impressive 20K+ gold and garnet hoop earrings - each one featuring a 14-sided polygonal pendant - also comprised of 20K+ gold - with four faces containing a garnet inlay, 10 faces featuring clusters of granules, and filigree borders between the faces. Believe it or not, the Romans invented the hoop earring which developed around 300 BCE - and these outstanding examples are a mesmerizing interpretation of the form! Total weight: 10.4 grams
