Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama Coaque (Jamacoaque) culture, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. A delightful miniature ceramic bowl with an attached figure of a shaman. He wears a dramatic horned headdress and a skull-like medallion that hangs down his chest; he also has two objects, a ball and stick, in his hands. The bowl is connected to the fierce little figure via a cylinder. The body of the vessel stands on a flat, splayed foot, above which its round form ends in a tall, narrow mouth. The shoulder of the vessel is ringed with applied decoration that includes four-petaled flowers. Researchers believe that what pottery figures wear in this culture are reflective of what real people actually wore, and so this shaman figure gives us a dramatic glimpse into the past. Size: 3.7" L x 2.65" W x 2.7" H (9.4 cm x 6.7 cm x 6.9 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection
