“It is only by the intimate story of the common people—how they lived, what they ate, how they dressed, of their joys and sorrows, of their everyday doings—that we gain a true picture of what lies behind us. It is upon personal memoirs that we must depend for this picture.” This monumental set is comprised of nine separate works, each drawing heavily on primary source documents, of which “we here in California are singularly rich”:
Vols are;
1) Pathfinders, by Robert Glass Cleland;
2) Spanish Arcadia, by Nellie van de Grift Sanchez;
3) The Great Trek, by Owen Cochran Coy;
5)Songs and Stories, by Edwin Markham;
6) Oxcart to Airplane, by Rockwell D. Hunt;
7) March of Industry, also by Cleland.
8) Land of Homes, by Frank J. Taylor;
9) Outdoor Heritage, by Harold Child Bryant;
This set was especially prepared for John Barnes Miller
