In 1915, local riots between religious sects broke out in Ceylon, resulting in a complete over-reaction by British Colonial troops. This is thought to have been the impetus for the movement for self-rule in what is now Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Mrs. Walker tried to keep the home fires burning with recipes for cooking old fowl, turnip tops au gratin, fried bread pudding, Scotch broth, cockaleekie soup, and the like. Nary a curry to be found herein.
