The Simons had a penchant for European oil paintings of the romanticism and classical period with carefully selected works placed in thoughtful frames. The French painter, Guillaume Seignacs, _A Beauty of Nature” depicts a woman outfitted in diaphanous drapery gazing at a lilac blossom. Seignac (1870-1924), the French Academic painter, is a notable 19th century artist whose works have sold internationally. Works by Seignac were regularly exhibited at Salon in Paris, arguably the greatest annual art event in the Western World throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Of all of the Simon's paintings "A Beauty of Nature" by Seignac has one of the most prestigious provenances.

This lot was formerly the property of well-known real estate developer Mr. Melvin Simon and his wife, Bren Simon. It is part of the Simon's Asherwood Estate which Mrs. Simon most graciously has gifted to the non-profit Great American Songbook Foundation on whose behalf it is being sold.
