Item Details
Description
Mid 19th century, 245 x 168 cm, South West Caucasus

This large Kazak belongs to a rare Karachov sub-group woven in light colours (a grass-green field, a golden yellow main border, red-and-white minor borders), in which the four-and-one design is complemented by four red rectangles containing vine-like, stylised animal forms. Another Kazak of the same group was published by Herrmann in 1986, and a further example was sold by us in 1988. – Slight signs of age and wear, uniformly low pile, the original selvedges are preserved.
