Mid 19th century, 42 x 57 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan

A large star adorns the steel-blue field of this small bag face woven in a horizontal format; it now serves as the face of a stuffed cushion, but formerly belonged to a khorjin. The sinuous S-shaped animal forms of the border stand out like reliefs from the light brown, completely corroded ground. The design of the bag seems archaic, and it may be one of the oldest surviving Baluch weavings. – Obvious signs of age and wear.
