Rare American pocket map of a long forgotten war between the Austrians and the allied French and Sardinians. Shows northwest Italy. The war was intended todrive Austria out of Lombardy. It ended in a disasterous battle at Solferino, a village northwest of Mantua (1859) which produced about 30,000 casualties but no clear decision. The Peace of villafranca di Verona soon ended hostilites. J.H. Dunant was present at the battle which inspired him to promote the Red Cross. Some tears and small losses.
