Description
Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A beautiful, hammered 18K gold pendant of a circular form with trios of granulated gold on both the obverse and reverse faces as well as a trifurcated suspension strap on top. Further granulated gold adorns the bottom of the pendant and gives it a small, dangling tail. Decorative gold granulation like those present on this example is an ancient technique that most likely originated with the ancient Sumerians around 3000 BCE. Size: 0.9" W x 1.375" H (2.3 cm x 3.5 cm); quality of gold: 18K; total weight: 2.6 grams.
