De Tocqueville wrote his famous book on American government after a trip he took to United States to study the American penitentiary system. This book covers aspects of government and politics such as popular sovereignty, power of the judicial system, United States Constitution, political parties, freedom of press, methods used to ensure against tyranny, and futures for various races. It also examines the influence of democracy on religions, science, arts, manners, and philosophy.
