George Collingridge was a 19th-century Australian historian who studied the early European discovery of Australia in the 16th- to 18th-centuries. His most important work was his 1895 ‘The Discovery of Australia’, a work which made him the ‘authority on geographical matters’, according to the Royal Geographical Society. In this work, Collingridge describes the voyages of Magellan, Galvano, Cook, and a significant section of Christopher Columbus and his New World discoveries. This work also describes the Eastern discoveries of Marco Polo and the geographical findings of Ptolemy.
