The Nemethy family presently consists of six artists, all who became artists through the inspiration and teachings of their late father, the renowned Hungarian-American artist Albert Nemethy, Senior. From early ages the Nemethy children were fortunate to be inspired by their father’s world of classical music, fine art, and antiques. Albert Nemethy, Sr. studied at the Budapest Academy of Art and the Munich Academy of Art. He became instructor to the six Nemethy siblings, nurturing their genetic inheritance of artistic talent.

Born in 1952, George Nemethy, like his father Albert, was greatly inspired by Persian miniatures. He remembers them as an integral part of his youth. As he began to travel, he made a point to visit collections of such miniatures, studying them to discover what made the masters of the format special. Soon after his initial travels, traveling became more than a simple journey towards a destination, it became a fundamental part of his method and painting practice.

The master has remarked that I paint as I travel, and I travel to paint. Sailors, curators and collectors worldwide have followed him from country to seaport, to beach resorts, to isolated islands, all in the hopes of collecting his most recent colors of the sea. Nemethys paintings represent a marriage between a blissful state of mind and the highest level of craftsmanship and precision one can imbue in a miniature painting.

His magic is in creating an illusion with light, to give the sensation that the light is coming from the painting, not into it. He paints shimmering water, radiant clouds and astonishingly detailed ships and their crew. However, his vision is one that feels private, and peaceful. His art is one of balance within a theme dominated by movement.
