Rare signed tzedakah Judaica charity box by Zelig Segal (1933-2015 Israel) Crafted of sterling silver 925. Features a modernist ball form with offset lid. Signed Z. Segal in script. Engraved "Guggenheim Family" in Hebrew on bottom. Zelig Segal was born in Jerusalem and raised in a religious home and educated in Yeshiva. He sudied at the Bezalel Academy of Art in 1949 and was awarded a scholarship through David Ben-Gurion. In 1964 he became the head of the gold and silversmithing department of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. His expertly designed and crafted Judaica ceremonial objects are represented in numerous museums including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, University Museum, New York and the Israel Museum of Jerusalem.
