Description
a 15" bowl and 25 cups, ring design, brown sugar glaze, 1974, scarce, excellent.............According to the Museum of American Pottery, Walter and Dorothy Cole Auman operated Seagrove Pottery from 1953 to 1991. They were both tragically killed when a load of lumber from a tractor-trailer fell on their car shortly before Halloween in October 1991. Dorothy was the daughter of potter Charlie C. Cole, while Walter got his start at his uncle Herman Cole’s Smithfield Pottery. The Aumans worked tirelessly promoting North Carolina traditional pottery and established a museum of traditional pots, which later became part of the permanent collection of the Mint Museum.
