Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A fascinating piece of architectural technology, this is a black stone plumb bob with a long, conical base and a heavy, six-sided head. Projecting from the top of the head is a square-shaped nub drilled through horizontally to allow suspension. The stone remains of Incan architecture are the most significant pre-Columbian buildings in South America, still to be seen at places like Sacsayhuaman and elsewhere in Cusco. The precise fittings of the stones were achieved by the use of plumb bobs like this one. Size: 3.25" W x 5.5" H (8.3 cm x 14 cm); 6.65" H (16.9 cm) on included custom stand.
