A Peer Smed Sterling Silver Bread Dish
hand-wrought oval form with hand-hammered surface, the gently undulating rim with applied curved beaded flourishes, the underside with Smed's mark and period engraving "C.E.F. / Oct. 15, 1936."

Born in Copenhagen in 1878, Peer Smed crafted silver items for the royal families of Denmark and Sweden. In 1909 he settled permanently in Brooklyn, NY, maintaining a studio there until his death in 1943. His sculptural silver hollowware and jewelry designs are in numerous museum collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Dallas Museum of Art, and The Art Institute of Chicago.
