The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a monastery dating from the 14th century and is considered the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox church and was added to the UN World Heritage list in 1993. Sergiyev Posad, where the monastery is located, is one of the cities included in the 'Golden Ring' northeast of Moscow.
