DESCRIPTION: Large group of documents from the Simon Cameron Estate. Includes Simon Cameron's checkbook, financial correspondence, leases, stock statements, telegraphs, letters of acknowledgement form those who received bequests, receipts, treasurer's reports, a pipeline right of way in Donegal Township, and more. Simon Cameron (1799-1889) was born in Maytown, PA and served as the State printer of Pennsylvania, Secretary of War to Abraham Lincoln, and became Pennsylvania's state senator in 1845. Cameron made his fortune in railways, canals and banking, and founded the Bank of Middletown. From a local collector. CONDITION: All with toning and wear as expected. Well cared for.
