Description
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An eye-catching gilded silver locket decorated with religious imagery in relief. The openwork back shows Christ surrounded by two angel attendants. The solid front shows the Nativity. 32 pearls form a border around the front image, with two inlaid red carnelians and green quartz stones create a cross-shape on the border. At the center is a small turquoise bead. Six additional pearls decorate the surface. Size of locket: 2.2" W (5.6 cm); length of cord: 20" L (50.8 cm); total weight: 83 grams
