  • BIOGRAPHY: Lahary Pittman, b. 1949, is an American visual artist working in 35mm film gelatin silver prints, pastels and film/video. His photographic body of work and films have been screened and exhibited worldwide including the Netherlands, Britain, France, Australia, New York and throughout the United States. He is ranked internationally in the ArtFact.com auction database, has been listed on ArtNet and is collected privately & publicly both domestically and abroad. The artist's most recent exhibition took place 1n 2018 at the Florida Museum of Photography in the show "Forever Young". Curatorial selections in recent years include being selected for two consecutive juried exhibitions at Art Center Sarasota, including "Florida Flavor" in which the artist was selected by the former curator of the Ringling Museum of Art.

    As an author, he is published in paperback by London's Myrdle Court Press which coincides with works from his Shifting Boundaries series being exhibited in London as well. His European achievements include being winner of the 2010 Expose Commission for the purpose of photographing the 14th century medieval city of Bruges, Belgium, plus he has produced a series concerning the vernacular architecture in the south of France titled "Provencal".

    Mr. Pittman was honored by the Delaware Art Museum as a multiple category winner in their "Gordon Parks Arts Competition", in which he won "Best In Show" in the film category for his documentary "Rhythm and Pain" and as a jury winner in the photography category for his gelatin silver print "Succos on the Bowery". His residency series, entitled "The Shifting Boundaries and Culture of Manhattan's Lower East Side", has received numerous awards including an Abron's Art Center grant made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation, and a grant made possible with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund via the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and support by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
