Description
Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast (probably southern Alaska), Tlingit people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A fine cylindrical basket made from tightly-woven reed strands in coffee, wheat, rust, and espresso hues. The circular basket displays two registers of alternating geometric motifs separated by a thin brown border in the middle of the body, and the upper rim curves slightly inwards to hold a larger lid. Size: 7" Diameter x 3.5" H (17.8 cm x 8.9 cm).
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Original lid missing. Small losses to area of rim, with slight bending to overall form, and light fading to pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
