Description
Made in the Kalamazoo plant in 1947.All original.Gibson mother of pearl block logo and crown headstock inlay.Laminated maple top, back and sides, triple binding top and back.Mahoganny neck, single bound rosewood fingerboard and headstock, 20 frets, double parallelogram mother of pearl inlays, 25.5" scale length.Rosewood adjustable floating bridge, chrome plated flat-plate tailpiece with f-hole cutouts.Plastic knobs, dog ears P90 with adjustable pole pieces.Kluson deluxe tuners.Original brown case with pink interior. All original, vintage, top of the line Gibson from 1947, a player's dream still in overall good shape. The 17″ “Advanced” body is reasonnant and feels great and the C-shaped neck is to die for with a very slight V going on the low side.First frets are quite marked and may need to be replaced soon.Set up with a fresh set of extra light flatwounds, sound unplugged is full and articulate but still on the mellow side, tuners hold tuning well.Plugged, the original P90 delivers an extremely warm and rich tone, incredible clarity with vintage rawness in spades, combined with the added depth and air of the archtop this guitar is a real gem to listen to.Volume knob needs to be replaced as it'll only let sound through when it's turned all the way up. It is to be noted that both pots are original and show heavy signs of oxydation so revamping all the electronics besides the pickup will be necessary. The original tortoise pickguard is missing. The nitrocellulose finish has beautifully aged and cracked all over the instrument, a few scratches and dings are noted especially on the lower part of the body and behind the neck, a bit of wear is also shown on the back top angle of the headstock. The finish has faded on the body on the side of the high strings, those "pinky" marks are witnesses of the kind of player the original owner was.The case is covered in scratches and small dents although it seems ready to protect this gem for many other years to come. The original case shows wear but is still structurally strong as well as the leather strap.
