Description
We are pleased to offer this SUPERB, antique to older vintage (1950s) chair. This chair is in French Rococo style with Dorothy Draper, Hollywood Regency influences as well. The chair features a beautiful, carved wood frame with asymmetrical back rest accented with a carved wood, rose swag. The chair is in original condition with original fabric and wood finish. This chair is tufted on the seat and back. This is stunning and VERY high end chair.A tag on the bottom of the chair reveals its secret history. Research shows the original company was started by George D. Shell in 1939. It was then incorporated on 3/01/1956 with the principles being Leonard L. Pelham, George D. Shell and Richard H. Leckie. They merged with Quality Furniture Manufacturing Company on 05/31/1960 and the corporation was dissolved 09/12/1969. That indicates furniture with Pelham, Shell & Leckie on it was probably made after 1956 for only a few years. This sweet little chair is in excellent condition and would look lovely in a ladies bedroom or as a dresser chair. (Dorothy Draper (November 22, 1889 – March 11, 1969) was an American interior decorator. Stylistically very anti-minimalist, she would use bright, exuberant colors and large prints that would encompass whole walls. She incorporated black and white tiles, rococo scrollwork, and baroque plasterwork, design elements now considered definitive of the Hollywood Regency style of interior decoration. She had the first interior design company in this country [wiki]).
