Description
**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A lovely mold-formed terracotta oil lamp with a circular base, round walls, a recessed tondo with a small fill hole, and a large wick spout with two projecting lateral points. Within the tondo is a low relief image of a peacock standing with bent legs on a fruit-laden branch, its plumage retracted against its body and its head facing to the right. Covered in vibrant orange slip, this is a fabulous example of utilitarian Roman pottery! Size: 3.8" L x 2.7" W x 1" H (9.7 cm x 6.9 cm x 2.5 cm).
