Description
**Originally Listed At $400**

Ancient Near East, Sumeria, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A lovely upper half of a press-molded clay plaque displaying a standing relief figure, probably representing Astarte (also known as Ashtoreth and Ishtar in parts of Mesopotamia) - a goddess associated with sexuality, war, and fertility. She holds her hands beneath her bosom, a characteristic pose for the goddess which has been interpreted as a gesture of fertility. Her form is slender and sensual. Size: 2.05" W x 3.2" H (5.2 cm x 8.1 cm); 4.45" H (11.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
