Antique throwing knife weapon from the Ngombe people of Central Africa - Congo River Valley. Hand hammered flattened steel blade, crossed and flanged formRattan, textile and leather-wrapped handle, with a thick hide lather and large, primitive stitching.Known as a Bwambwa, a design that's derived from the Za weapon, and similar to the Kpinga (Hunga Munga) throwing knives of the Azande People (Congo). They were highly valued by the tribes and took days to produce by skilled blacksmiths. Besides being a useful weapon, they were usually a symbol of power and wealth, often owned by village elders and those held in high social regard.
