This lot consists of a vibrant, hand painted watercolor illustration on paper, hand signed "Marc Chagall" at bottom right. This painterly, blue-green image depicts a towering tree, which holds in its branches a plethora of biblical symbols. The tree is flush with every color of the rainbow. In it, we can see Jacob's Ladder, the infamous serpent of Eden, a goat, and a menorah. Beyond this magnificent sight, a loving couple hovers in the distant sky. Opposite the couple, a full moon glows brightly. In the space below, an ancient city and a small bird are the only other observers of this quiet, dream-like vision. Done in the early modernist style of Marc Chagall (French, 1887-1985). This unframed piece measures approximately 8.25" x 11.5".
