Description
Marriage charger, gifted to the couple Marcel and Godelieve on the occasion of their marriage on 20 January 1953. Made of thick, hand painted glazed Majolica ceramic. All handcrafted, signed on the back by the artist from Ghent, Flanders, Belgium. Inscribed up front MARCEL-GODELIEVE / 20 LAUWMAAND 1953 with shield crests representing the professions of the two newlyweds, surrounding an epic maritime scene of a ship in full sails - LIEFDE EN TROUW ("Love and Faith"). The back is also well inscribed - O.L. VROUWKERK ST. TRUIDEN (the location of the marriage - The Church of Our Lady or Onze-Lieve Vrouwkerk in Sint-Truiden, Belgium); Z.E.H. DEKEN DENEYS; GETUIGEN (Witnesses): LUTGART DOSFEL and KAREL ROEKAERTS. Signed by the artist on the back under the unscriptions, hard to read.
