Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of photographs of a large mariachi band, consisting of between fifty-two and sixty musicians, each holding their own respective instruments. Mariachi bands are the early Mexican equivalent of the traditional American "big band," consisting of many members playing a variety of instruments such as flutes, clarinets, tubas, standing double bass, large Mexican guitars, and large timpani drums. Mariachi groups like these can consist of as few as three members and as many as one-hundred in some cases. Both photos have rectangular cardboard backings. Size of largest: 13.875" L x 11" W (35.2 cm x 27.9 cm); size of photo: 9" L x 7.875" W (22.9 cm x 20 cm).

Condition
Smaller photo has foxing throughout picture and backing, with minor wear and losses to corners and peripheries, and pierced with a string through top for hanging. Larger photo has minor wear and fading, but overall is very good for age; mounting has creases and wear to peripheries and corners, with only minimal staining.
