Book Details: This antique volume is bound in brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt spine lettering and gilt ornamental design to the spine and front board. This book is the plate volume, [Part II: Plates], of the Palaeontology volumes in the Geological Survey of New York, and contains approximately 120 full-page, black and white tissue-guarded plates of the organic remains, artifacts and fossils of the Lower Helderberg Group and the Oriskany Sandstone.

The Oriskany Formation is a geologic formation in the northeastern United States. It preserves fossils dating back to the Devonian period. It is composed of sandstone, often bearing natural gas. The Helderberg Group is a geologic group in New York, and it also preserves fossils dating back to the Devonian period.

Condition / Notes: This antique volume shows nicely with some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and rubbing. The boards are partially detached, and the spine is cracked. The binding and text block are otherwise sound. Text and illustrated plates are clear and crisp through mild age toning.
