Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca period, ca. 100 BCE to 800 CE. Three mantle fringe sections, one large - called munecas from the Spanish for doll. Woven from camelid fiber, two are formed of nub-like shapes, while the larger has ten or eleven stylized anthropomorphic figures, all brightly colored in cream, mustard yellow, black, red, green, orange, blue, brown, and teal. Textiles would have been used in this culture in conjunction with polychrome vessels in ceremonies. They were ritual attire and used as display objects, and ultimately in funerary contexts. Mounted on linen and framed. Size of largest piece: 17" W x 5" H (43.2 cm x 12.7 cm); size of frame: 20.25" W x 16" H (51.4 cm x 40.6 cm)

Small losses, notably from the lower right side (facing) as shown. Nice bright colors. Textiles have not been examined outside of the frame.
