Description
Ethnographic American Folk Art. Oil on wood. 36 x 20 in. Arbon Lane was born in 1932 in Reidsville, North Carolina and worked as a dishwasher, bricklayer, truck driver and in a textile factory. He started painting as a young adult then stopped and didn’t pick up a brush again until he was in his sixties. He worked with house paint, often on pieces of tin. He loved to paint people and events from his rural childhood, recalling happy times that had passed from his life. Arbon also enjoyed writing poetry and playing music. Arbon passed away October 4, 2005.After his death, the Hickory Museum of Art in North Carolina exhibited his work in a one-man show called A Black Man Speaks.Provenance on verso, purchased in Roanoke, VA.
