Description
Late Louis XVI or Directoire period Neoclassical small console or table a ecrire (writing table), figured mahogany with oak secondary wood. Rectangular marble top and reticulated brass gallery over a brass inlaid frieze; frieze has a single dovetailed drawer with geometric brass bail handles, flanked by inset brass panels. Four stop-fluted legs with brass capitals and bases, atop four brass mounted toupie feet joined by a marble-inset, brass-inlaid undertier. 33" H x 25 1/2" W x 13" D. Condition
Overall very good condition. Some hairlines and minor light staining to marble on undertier; 3 1/2" section of loss to brass line inlay at front right section of undertier; scattered shrinkage; French polish surface. Key retained, working lock.
