Mark for Ellmore Silver Co., Meriden, CT 1935-1960. 15" diameter. 19.5 oz troy. Handwritten note accompanying the tray states it was originally owned by the late Tennessee First Lady Vera Kercheval McCord (d. 1953), wife of Jim Nance McCord. McCord served as Tennessee's Governor from 1945-1949. The note states it was used at the Tennessee Governor's Mansion on West End Ave. and at Mrs. McCord's home in Lewisburg, Tennessee, before she gave it to her niece, Mary McCord Galloway Irwin; it descended to Mrs. Irwin's daughter, Mary Elaine Hargis in about 1965, and was acquired by the consignor directly from Ms. Hargis.
