Description
Attributed to Giles Grendy (English, 1693-1780), second half 18th century. A George II walnut and burled walnut carved armchair. Incorporating floral, shell, and foliate details on crest rail, back splat and chair back. The hand carved legs blend a curved head of an eagle with feather knees, and ball and claw feet. Front rail has a two headed eagle motif. Unmarked. Approx. h. 39.375", w. 23.875", d. 18.375".
Condition
Inactive insect damage to the left front foot. Some loss to carving on the left knee, left top crest rail. Missing veneer on seat, front middle and back right. Small chips to lower shell on back splat. Ware, scuffing and scratches commensurate
