Description
Early American Pattern Glass lidded, raised bowl or compote made by Bryce, Higbee & Co. Clear pressed glass in the Paneled Sprig pattern (also known as "Indian Tree"), a characteristic pattern of the company. Founded in 1879 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by John Bryce (who had just withdrawn from Bryce, Walker and Co.), his son Charles, John B. Higbee (previously a salesman for Bryce, Walker) and Joseph A. Doyle, who had resigned from Doyle and Co. glass-makers. The company was also known as Homestead Glass Works, and unfortunately went bankrupt in 1907, after it's factory was destroyed by a severe flood. The assets were relocated to Bridgeville, PA, and renamed John B. Higbee GLASS CO. Higbee glass was known for it's pressed tableware such as this pieceThis piece dates to circa 1885.
