Wonderful round late 1880’s bronze / brass hinged box, hand painted enamel and foil portrait of a lady on front, stamped FRANCE on the bottom. The portrait is very intricately detailed, unusual colored flowing hair. The portrait is in very nice condition, may have a few minor surface scratches but we could not see hardly anything even with a loupe and mostly just has a little dirt and dust , we will include several close ups so you can decide. The portrait has an iridescence that just jumps out at you, due to the foiled areas. The portrait porcelain disc is set in the center top of front lid, ornate floral filigree on the lid, solid flush design on the rest of the box. The portrait measures approx. ¾ inch diameter measured across. Most of any wear is strictly on the bottom, shelf wear, and inside from normal use, some slight staining and moderate wear from jewelry or whatnot. Inside it has a pale gold colored padded lining on the inside lid as well as the bottom and inside sides of the case, feels like a brushed cotton velvet, side open seam that appears to be original. The bronze/brass has a beautiful warm patina. The hinge is in very good working condition, opens and shuts just fine. Box measures approx. 3 inches in diameter, measured across, stands 1 2/16 inches high, inside is approx. ¾ inches deep.
