Written by Pierre de Madelaine in 1641, ‘Treaty on Watchmaking’ discusses the principles of spherical trigonometry, methods for building sundials and clocks, as well as astronomical implications for telling time with the stars. Curiously, this work concludes with a section on geometric stereotomy.
This 1691 edition is illustrated with 81 engraved plates, each of which demonstrates aspects of clocks, sundials, and compasses per Tardy.
