Book Details: This antique two-volume set of elephant folios is bound with dark green cloth spines and printed paper-covered boards. This collection of ancient works contained in papyri and codices is divided in two parts: a first part devoted to Greek works, and a second portfolio to Latin manuscripts. The former contains twenty plates with photo-lithographic facsimiles of manuscripts, the latter sixty-one. These volumes are particularly illustrative of and useful in the study of palaeography.
Condition / Notes: The larger elephant folio (Part II, Latin) shows some external wear, with tears to the spine and lightly soiled and rubbed covers. Boards display bumped corners with loss of material. Intact green cloth chemise exhibits wear, with significant chipping to interior folds. Loose leaves show light soiling to the title page and light foxing to initial pages of the text. Verso of final plate has foxing. Plates are otherwise clean and bright. The smaller portfolio (Part I, Greek) displays more moderate wear, with light soiling to covers. Bound leaves (measuring 15.25" x 20") are laid in. Pages of text are clean and without markings. Well-preserved plates are bright. A library stamp appears in the upper right corner of both title pages and a library bookplate appears on the verso of both front boards.
