Description
Charles Prosper Sainton (AMERICAN / NEW YORK / UNITED KINGDOM /ENGLAND, 1861 - 1914) oil painting on canvas executed circa 1903 depicting a Gypsey boy and girl with tambourine and horn. The girl is sleepingon the boys shoulder as they rest on a bench. Signed to lower left "CPSainton" and dated "Feb83". Mounted in a heavy gold painted wooden frame; lower center of frame bears museum name plaque. Verso of frame bearsdealer and frame maker Arthur Vokins, London label. Canvas on stretcher measures approx. 30" height x 25" width (76.2cm x 63.5cm). Measures approx. 42 3/4" height x 38" width (108.6cm x 96.5cm) overall including frame.
