Description
This is a rare plant fiber mask known as "Mbawa" or the Buffalo and was used by an initiation society among the Yaka known as NKANDA. This mask is well constructed with woven fibers and rattan like structures and painted with mineral pigments. The overall form represents the Buffalo with cow bells on. Yaka peoples, Congo, Africa. The Mask measures 22 x 17 ( 28 inches on professional custom display stand)
