**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Judea, Herodian Classic Period, ca. 1st century CE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Two wonderful oil lamps from the Roman and Judean eras. First is a mold-made pottery Herodian oil lamp with a flat base and a disc-form body, rounded walls, a wide fill hole with a raised rim, and a projecting wick spout with a flared tip. Second is a Roman lamp hand-carved from a dark-gray stone. The rhombus-form vessel has a flat base with a lengthy planta pedis (maker's mark), angled walls, and a small square platform in the center, each corner integral with the corresponding side. A fantastic duo! Size of largest (stone): 4.875" L (12.4 cm).
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields and Riverbend Gallery

Condition
Both lamps have age-commensurate surface wear, small chips around peripheries, light char marks to wick spouts, with earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
