Description
Depression era scene. Oil on canvas 27 x 27 in. Unsigned. From a Connecticut estate. Born in Detroit, MI on April 4, 1884. Hinchman studied at the Detroit School of Fine Art, with Wicker, Hawthorne, Kendall, and Carlson, and with Lhote at Académie Julian in Paris. After four years in Europe, he returned to the U.S. and settled in Laguna Beach where he was the creator of the Festival of Arts. In 1936 he painted in Grosse Ile, MI and in 1938 he was in New Hope, PA. Hinchman died in Laguna Beach on May 8, 1948. Exh: Laguna Beach AA, 1928-33; Calif.
