A substantial iron axe head; broad blade with sharp curved edge, facetted flared socket; openwork decoration of a cross and a maker's mark stamped to one face between the openwork cross and the socket; the opposing end formed into a hammer; an oval hole at the top for a nail to secure the wooden shaft. . - 170mm, 545 grams - ca.900-1100AD - From an important British collection, purchased in Europe in the 1980s. - All items come with Free International postage, accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity .
