Description
A cast bronze sculpture of a cantering horse and jockey attributed to French artist Isidore Jules Bonheur titled "Le Grand Jockey" greets patrons dining in the turn-of-the-century decorated Park Garden. Bonheur, who was one of the group of 19th-century sculptors known as "Les Animaliers" due to their preferred subject matter of animals both domestic and wild, was also the sculptor of the two lions flanking the Palais de Justice in Paris. However, one of his most beloved subjects was the horse, as is the case in this late-period (circa 1900) example of his craft. Inscribed "I. Bonheur" at the base. H41" x 39.5"
