Tintype of a "Dapper" African American Philadelphia Man
Tintype Photo of "Dapper" Fine Dressed African American Man, with Photography studio label on back from J. Fenton's Ambrotype, Ferrotype and Photo Miniature Gallery label, Philadelphia, Very Fine.
Sixth-plate Tintype, of an African American man in a stylish three-piece suit, trilby hat with ribbon and pocket watch chain, leaning against a cabinet, with a studio background of a classical Greek column. Photography studio label on the verso for, J. Fenton's, No. 729 South Street, Philadelphia. Other examples housed in the collection of the Library Company of Philadelphia for Photographer Joseph Fenton who operated from about 1860 to 1870. A classic impressive image of a Free Black man who has obviously prospered in the Philadelphia, during the Civil War era.
