"Art/Life founded by Joe Cardella and Barbara Smeltzer began in 1980. (Published from 1981-2001). It was the longest-running international periodical of artwork made entirely by hand. Two hundred copies of Art/Life are produced 11 times a year (every month except January) and distributed internationally--the biggest drop points being New York City and Tokyo. Most of the contributing artists are California-based, but work comes from Germany--which has the second largest contingent of Art/Lifers--and other corners of the world." -Joseff Woodard, Los Angeles Times, March 28, 1999.
