Description
Five aquatints from 'The Costume of China' by William Alexander, Published by William Miller, Albemarle Street, London, 1805. Plates include: 1) The Frontispiece. Mounted at the top corners only with two small strips of tape and housed in a thin folio. Measure 15.375-in. x 12.5-in. mat size, 10.875-in. x 8.25-in. cut-out image size. 2) A Chinese Solider of Infantry, or Tiger of War. Included with plate is page from book about image. Mounted at the top corners only with two small strips of tape and housed in a thin folio. Measures 15-in. x 13-in. mat size, 10.875-in. x 8.375-in. cut-out image size. 3) Punishment of the Cangue. Attached with two small pieces of tape to the plate is page from book about image. Otherwise unframed and loose. Measures 9.75-in. x 12.75-in. 4) A Sacrifice at the Temple. Mounted at the top corners only with two small strips of tape and housed in a thin folio. Measures 12.5-in. x 15.5-in. mat size, 8.375-in. x 10.875-in. cut-out image size. and 5) A Punishment of the Bastinado. Attached with two small pieces of tape to the plate is page from book about image. Otherwise unframed and loose. Measures 13-in. x 9.75-in. Additionally, included is the title page from the book, the index, page No I of the Costume of Great Britain (preview page for future publication), and the List of Subscribers.
