Twenty-three 18th Century Portrait Plates from Various Books. All black and white. Twenty-two feature men, one woman. Nineteen are single portraits, four a composites of six men each. All are ecclesiastical, political, artists or educators. These include: Madame Necker (French-Swiss salonist and writer), Thomas Manton (English Puritan clergyman), Humphrey Prideaux (English churchman and orientalist, Dean of Norwich from 1702), Daniel Whitby (controversial English theologian and biblical commentator), Paul de Rapin, sieur of Thoyras, (French historian on England), George Talbot (4th Earl of Shrewsbury), Abraham Vanderdort (van der Doort, Dutch artist), and John Boydell (18th-century British publisher). The four composites are all of artists. Personages date back to 16th-century. Seventeen are plates from books, six are etchings. Various measuring, smallest measures 7.5-in. x 4.75-in., the largest 16.625-in. x 10.125-in. All unframed, loose and not mounted or glued down.
