Provenance: This item is part of the Slade family holdings of paintings, sterling silver and Chinese porcelain (see Oakridge Auction Gallery's March 14th auction, lots. 149 to lot. 155, which was a Chinese blanc de chine Dehua figurine of a robed Bodhidharma or Damo which sold for $416,000USD). The collection was assembled by three members of the family and then by descent to the present owner. The collection was begun by Henry Adolphus Warre Slade (1869 - 1936). He was a British businessman, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1908/09) and the Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation between 1900 and 1902. The collection was added to by his sons, Royal Navy Commander Gerald Gordon Slade, who fought in both World Wars, and his brother Maurice Gordon Slade. The Slade family hold peerage and are noted in “Burke's Peerage” by Charles Mosley.
